  • Greenfields Top 100 Children's Books

    Mon 20 Jan 2020

We are delighted and excited to launch our 'Greenfields Top 100' Children's Books today!

We have chosen 100 books that we think every child should know and have organised them by Year Groups. So we have 25 essential Nursery and Reception books, 25 for Key Stage One, 25 for Years 3 and 4 and 25 for Years 5 and 6.

At Greenfields, we put a huge emphasis on the importance of teaching the children to read. As soon as the children start with us in Foundation, through to the end of Year 6, we encourage the children to read as much as possible. We know that reading a wide variety of books will help the children in all areas of their learning.

Whilst we teach children the phonic skills they need to build words and to develop their reading, the most important thing is for them to read as many books as possible. Reading stories sparks your child’s imagination, stimulates curiosity and helps learning. Exploring stories also helps children to learn the difference between what is ‘real’ and ‘make-believe’ as well as helping them improve their writing.

There have been many times over the past few years when we have been asked about which books we would recommend for the children to read.

We hope that every child will know all of these books by the time they leave Greenfields.

We are calling them “Star Stories” and have attached a booklet below listing all of these stories.

We have copies of all of the books in school and most of them will be available from the local library. We will make sure in school too that the children have these stories read to them or read them themselves throughout the year.

We hope that you enjoy the list.

So … let’s all get reading!

  • Greenfields congratulated by David Laws MP!

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

We were delighted to receive a letter last month from David Laws, MP and Minister of State for Schools, congratulating us on our KS2 SATs results last year.

Mr Laws was particularly impressed with the improvements made in the KS2 results of 'disadvantaged' pupils.

Only around a hundred schools across the country per year are chosen for this recognition so we are obviously delighted that our hard work and the attainment of the children is recognised by the Government.

Please have a look at the letter below as well as a letter from Pat Fielding, Director of Education for Nottingham, congratulating us on our KS2 SATs success.
