Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Welcome back! We are so happy to have all of our children back at school - we have really missed them!

The children have made an excellent start back to school and are settling back into school life and school routines.

This half term, we have lots of exciting work planned for the children that are based around the following books:

We are also very aware of the fact that the children have missed a lot of learning time at school due to the school closing during the Summer Term, so to help the children 'catch-up', we have dedicated the first half of the Autumn Term to supporting the children in filling some of those missed gaps. In school, we are calling this, 'Gap Attack'.

In Reception, during Gap Attack, we will be focusing on:

  • listening 1:1 and in small groups
  • beginning to understand 'how' and 'why' questions
  • using 'talk' to pretend situations
  • giving meaning to marks in drawings and paintings
  • beginning to show some awareness of how stories are structured
  • being able to explain the meanings of marks seen in different places

In addition to the above, all of the children will be given a new Home-School Diary and all of the children will read with an adult every week. The adult will write a short comment in the Home-School Diary after the child has read with them.

Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we are unable to send the Home-School Diaries home. But please rest assured that your child will be reading regularly at school.

We will share some of our work with you all before the half term break.
