Spring 2

'I wonder how Climate Change is affecting our planet.'

Hello, and welcome back to Spring 2.

This half-term the children will become geographers as they explore the impact of climate change on our planet: they'll consider the long-term impact of global warming on the planet's temperature; the impact of human activities; the connection between climate change and extreme weather, and then positive actions we can take towards climate change action.

In English, we will be using the book Room 13 to inspire our suspense-filled stories, looking at the tension features needed to get the reader on the edge of their sear. We'll then use the same stimulus to write email complaints and dialogue to show characterisation.

In Maths, we'll be focusing on the following areas: ratio and algebra, geometry, position and direction.

In science, we'll be exploring living things.

Spring 1

"I wonder what life was like in Britain during WW2..."

Hello and a very happy new year :D.

This half-term in Year 6, the children will become historians as we delve into our WW2 topic. They will consider what life was like during WW2 in Britain, with a focus on evacuees, the Homefront, the commonwealth and more. We will consider contributing factors which led to WW2, and we'll use evidence and artefacts to think like historians.

In English, the children will be exploring the book 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll, focusing on the adventures of 2 young evacuees. We will use this to inspire us to write story openings, including dialogue to advance the action, and motivational speeches to 'get behind the war effort.'

In Maths, we will be focusing on decimals, fractions and percentages. We will continue to develop our arithmetic skills, and you can support your child at home by encouraging the use of TT Rockstars to develop times tables.

In science this half-term we'll be learning about forces as well as our exciting solar system.
