Autumn

Autumn 2-

"I wonder how we're connected to the rest of Europe..."

This half-term in Year 6, the children will become geographers as they explore how the UK is linked to the rest of Europe. They'll develop their geographical skills by locating European countries and cities; major seas that border Europe; human and physical features, and imported and exported goods. During this half-term, we'll explore what migration is and potential push and pull factors. The children will compare Kraków, in Poland, with Nottingham City. In art, we'll be building on this learning, to create our own landscape art by using pencil techniques to sketch famous European landmarks.

In English, the children will be exploring the book 'The Nowhere Emporium' by Ross MacKenzie and will follow the main character, Daniel, on an exciting and mysterious journey around Europe. Using this text, we'll be writing our own prologues inspired by the author, and will be inviting our readers to visit our own magical emporiums.

In Maths, we will be focusing on fractions: equivalents, simplifying, ordering, comparing, and then we will move onto calculating. We will continue to develop our arithmetic skills, and you can support your child at home by encouraging the use of TT Rockstars to develop times tables.

In science this half-term we'll be learning about forces as well as our exciting solar system.
