Welcome to Year 2

Arrival/Depart

Year 2 doors open in the morning at 8.45 am. This allows a quiet start to the morning and also gives you the chance to speak to a member of the team if you wish. Children are sat down and ready to learn for 9.00 am. Gates are shut at 9.00 am prompt. School ends at 3.20 pm.

Reading books

We change reading books on a Tuesday and Friday. The children put their books in their table box by the door when they arrive at school.

Please can you read at least 3 times a week with your child and record this in their diary.

PE

We have PE  on a Wednesday afternoon. It is easier if you bring the children’s kit on a Monday and leave it at school until Friday. Children should wear white t-shirts, black shorts or bottoms and trainers or pumps.

School uniform

All children in school should be wearing full school uniform and black school shoes. Please can you label everything.

Spring Term

Our spring term history topic is Toys. We will be learning about how toys have changed in living memory.  We will be focusing on the changes in materials of toys and how the use of toys and games have changed including the introduction of electronic toys.

In Maths we will be focusing on shape. This half term, the children will learn about the different properties of 2D and 3D shapes and their names.

We will also be revisiting addition and subtraction with a big focus on number fluency using number bonds to solve addition and subtraction problems with numbers 0-100.

You can support your child at home by helping them to learn their number bonds to 10, 20 and 100.

Children in year 2 will also be learning their 2s, 5s, and 10 times tables.

In English we will be using the book ' The Velveteen Rabbit' to write character descriptions using adjectives. We will be working on ensuring all of our sentences have full stops and capital letters.

Homework in year 2 will now go home on a Wednesday and will be due in the following week. It will usually be maths linked to past learning.
