This half term we have been learning all about ourselves in our topic ‘Marvellous Me’. This has given us the opportunity to get to know your children as they settle in at school. We have been reading ‘I love you blue kangaroo’ and ‘Monkey puzzle’. This has encouraged the children to talk about themselves, their special toys and their families. One of the children bought her special pet rabbit in to meet us. Children have painted self-portraits and pictures of their favourite toys.
We have taken advantage of the beautiful autumnal weather and learnt about how our outdoor environment changes in Autumn. Children have been for a walk to the community gardens. We looked at all the different vegetables and fruits that were growing. We learnt all about Harvest Festival and the importance of sharing what we have with others. In nursery we made hedgehog bread and shared it with all of the classes in school. We sang Harvest songs and made patterns with vegetables. We had a visit from a Hedgehog called Harry. He was really interesting. After that we took the wheelbarrows out and collected leaves to make spikey hedgehog pictures.
We were lucky enough to go on a trip to the Library in town. We sensibly walked to the tram stop, got on the tram and walked through town to get to the library. We went to see a re-telling of the story ‘Augustus and his smile’ through music and dance. It was fantastic! The children loved the story and all got up to dance at the end. When we came back we made tiger handprints that looked just like Augustus.
We have also learnt all about Diwali. We made Divas and lanterns. We also had Mehndi patterns painted on our hands.
