The children have settled into Class 5 very well and have thoroughly enjoyed their first half term in Year 5.
At the beginning of this half term the children spent time learning about each other and thinking about what they would like to achieve in Class 5. As part of this, they wrote wonderful autobiographies about themselves and shared key facts about themselves with each other, as well as creating their own patterned handprints to display.
This half term we have based our learning around the book I Am Henry Finch by Alexis Deacon, all about a bird who learns to think for himself and not be afraid to do his own thing. As part of our topic, we have written stories based on ourselves as finches, written just to say poems as Henry or the Beast and produced some stunning artwork, including thumb print birds and black and white images from the book. In Science they have been learning about the body and have been very curious, asking lots of questions about how our hearts work.
Highlights for the children this term have included completing lots of artwork, especially their own finch characters and black and white pages from the book, as well as learning about the story and creating their own Beasts for their versions of it.
Next half term we are looking forward to focussing on History and learning about the Anglo-Saxons, Scots and Vikings.
